Pacquiao interested in fighting Marquez in China

pac67By Omar Torres: Yahoo! sports reports that Manny Pacquiao prefers to have his fifth fight against Juan Manuel Marquez to take place at the off shore Chinese gambling resort of Macau in China. Michael Koncz told Yahoo! Sports, the 39.6 percent tax rate Pacquiao would face if he were to fight in the U.S. makes a Las Vegas “a no go.”

I strongly believe that Juan Manuel Marquez is not going to like the idea of having to fight in China or in Asia much. The time zones are different and some of the fans from Mexico and U.S won’t be able to catch the fight live, only if your willing to watch it early in the morning with a cup of coffee.

I think that if the U.S. is not an option, why not Mexico? Manny has mentioned in past interviews that he would like to fight JMM in Mexico and I think It’s the perfect venue. I know that Manny would be in Marquez’s hometown and Manny would get boo’d and cursed at, but it seems Pacquiao wouldn’t mind it to much as he mentioned a bout with Marquez in Mexico before.

Top Rank needs to think hard about the venue of this fight if it even happens, because PPV sales may not sell to it’s full potential if this fight is held in China. I’m sure HBO will Air the taped fight in north, central and south America on Saturday night where most of fans will already know the results of the fight and will most likely not pay for the PPV.
