floyd433By Chris Williams: Unbeaten WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. said tonight that his father Floyd Sr. will be his trainer when he fights next on May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather Jr. said on his twitter “Me & my trainer [my dad] back working together getting ready for May 4th.”

Mayweather’s longtime trainer Roger Mayweather is reportedly having health problems, so Mayweather Jr. wants to go with his father for this fight, which could be against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero. Floyd Sr. was the one that started Mayweather Jr. with boxing at the very beginning, but then his uncle Roger took over his training. However, you can still see a lot of the things that his father taught him with the shoulder roll and the pinpoint punching. That was pure Floyd Sr.

It’ll be interesting to see how Mayweather Jr. and Floyd Sr. work together during the training camp on 24/7 series, if HBO ends up televising it.

If Guerrero gets selected by Mayweather Jr. to fight then he’s going to be for a world of hurt with his wide open style of fighting. Mayweather will literally pick Guerrero apart if he plods forward and tries to overwhelm him with punches like he did with his last opponent Andre Berto.

If Guerrero tries to fight like that against Mayweather he’s going to get his head handed to him. Guerrero says he likes to fire back shots each time he gets hit, but he’s going to getting hit clean, and he won’t be landing the shots he throws back.

Guerrero will have to come up with something different if he doesn’t want to get knocked out quickly in this fight because he doesn’t have the defense to beat Mayweather by overwhelming him with punches. That’s like a Ricky Hatton type of strategy, and we saw what Mayweather did to Hatton.
