mayweather453434By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. has just been given a huge $250 million six-fight contract with Showtime/CBS, but now he’s going to have to earn it by fighting the six fights within a 30 month period time starting with the tough Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero on May 4th.

Mayweather recognizes the kind of fighter that Guerrero is with his nonstop Antonio Margarito type of fighting style, and he plans on getting in the best condition possible in order to beat him.

Mayweather said this as quoted by RingTV “Guerrero is a very aggressive fighter. I am starting to train. As a matter of fact, this week I was out on the basketball court with some young kinds working on my cardio. I have to build my cardio up to beat Guerrero. I will not overlook him.”

It’s pretty obvious what Guerrero is going to be trying to do when he faces Mayweather on 5/4 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Guerrero will be looking to get on top of Mayweather by roughing him up, shoving him forcefully to the ropes and then using his high volume punching to work Mayweather over. Guerrero is able to keep his weaker opponents up against the ropes by shoving and leaning on them to keep them pinned.

Guerrero couldn’t do that against Selcuk Aydin because he was too strong for Guerrero to bully, but Andre Berto was dogged all night long in his loss to Guerrero last November.
Mayweather likes to fight off the ropes, so Guerrero may not have to do a lot of pushing to get him to go there. However, it’s going tough for Guerrero to land as cleanly because Mayweather is harder to hit because he moves his head and picks shots off on his gloves a lot better than Berto.

If Mayweather takes the fight to the center of the ring then it’s going to be awfully tough for Guerrero to win the fight because Mayweather is so much faster than him, and he’ll able to land cleanly to win rounds.

It’s going to be tough for Mayweather if Guerrero puts a lot of pressure on him because he’ll have been out of the ring for 12 months by the time they face each other in May. Guerrero, 31, is the younger guy and he’s used to fighting nonstop for 12 rounds and throwing a lot of punches. Mayweather has inactive, and he’s never been one to throw a lot of shots.
