marquez562By Chris Williams: Juan Manuel Marquez explained on Golpe a Golpe how he lured Manny Pacquiao into a trap in their last fight in December and sprang like a lion to knock him out cold in front of a sold out MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Marquez said to ESPN Deportes boxing program Golpe a Golpe “We were waiting for the right moment. Manny Pacquiao always makes a fake move that I know too well. He fakes a charge forward and then looks like he is going to follow with a one-two. That’s a common fake he has. What I do is, I wait for the moment, he fakes the punch … that one-two. Then I go for his right hand as he throws it as a jab — I go toward his right hand.”

Marquez knew exactly what the Filipino was going to do because he uses the same move over and over again in each of his fights, so Marquez waited on him and smashed him to the canvas with a right hand when he made the mistake.

Marquez also said he was having problems breathing out of his nose after suffering a fractured nose in the 5th round. Marquez’s trainer Nacho Beristain only treated the cut on the bridge of rather than the bleeding from the inside of his nose, and this make it extremely difficult for Marquez to breath in the 6th. He said he was desperate to get Pacquiao out of there because he was forced to breath out of his mouth, and Pacquiao made it easy for him by rushing him in the last seconds of the round.

It’s too bad Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach didn’t do something to change Pacquiao’s fighting style for the fourth fight because Marquez seems to have him down pact at this point. I’m sure Pacquiao isn’t too old to learn how to change his fighting style, so it’s too bad Roach had him fighting like he always has in the past because he really needed to come up with something different if he wanted to finally beat Marquez without controversy.

According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, Marquez now should be considered the series winner in the four fights because a lot of boxing fans had him winning the 2nd and 3rd fights, and he knocked Pacquiao in the 4th. A lot of fans also had Marquez winning the last 11 rounds in the first fight with Pacquiao after getting knocked down three times in the 1st round.
