Kalle Sauerland expecting a poor opponent for Wladimir in April

wlad2 (1)By Allan Fox: Promoter Kalle Sauerland is expecting the worst from IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in terms of his next opponent on April 6th. Sauerland isn’t happy that the 36-year-old Wladimir chose to get permission by the World Boxing Association (WBA) to slip an optional defense of his title on April 6th rather than face his mandatory against WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin.

After all these years, Povetkin is finally ready to fight Wladimir, but he’s going to have to wait a little while longer before he gets that shot because Wladimir will likely be taking a soft opponent like Odlanier Solis for his next title defense.

Kalle said on his twitter “Povetkin, Pulev, Helenius. All #1 ranked and better than the stiff they will choose. But time will tell, as always in boxing. Yeah the quality of recent opposition is frightening: Mormeck, Charr, Thompson, Wach, Sosnowski. Excited to see the big name Klitschko drags out of the mud to fight him April. Mormeck, Wach, Thompson wot could be next!! Excitement pure.”

Wladimir’s last three title defenses have come against Mariusz Wach, Tony Thompson and Jean Marc Mormeck. Those three opponents have been especially weak ones for Wladimir and it’s given some boxing fans the impression that he’s just looking to milk his titles now rather than challenging himself to take on the best in the division. There’s really not a lot for Wladimir to face even if he does want to fight someone tough.

Here arguably the very best of the heavyweight division:

Kubrat Pulev
Chris Arreola
Tyson Fury
Bermane Stiverne
David Price
Tomasz Adamek
Magomed Abdusalov
Odlanier Solis
David Haye
Robert Helenius
Deontay Wilder
Bryant Jennings
Denis Boytsov
Alexander Povetkin

Wladimir’s next opponent will likely be from this list because the other heavyweights are guys that he’s either beaten or they’re just not good enough to be really considered a danger to beating him. For example, Johnathon Banks, Seth Mitchell, Tony Thompson and Ruslan Chagaev aren’t on my list because he’s either beat them or they just don’t have the talent to compete with him.
