Haye missed his chance against Vitali

haye4543By Steven Ocallaghan: It looks like time has ran out on David Haye finally getting a crack at long time WBC heavyweight world champ Vitali Klitschko. Vitali had said that the deal was on the table for Haye but he turned that down. Haye had unfinished business with Derrick Chisora, so I can understand why that fight didn’t happen. The thing I can’t understand is why Vitali was willing to fight Haye last year but not now, so what is different?

Vitali is now 41 years old, 9 years older than Haye. Vitali is becoming more injury prone now. When Klitschko lost his first fight in defending his WBO heavyweight title against Chris Byrd, nearly 13 years ago, he dislocated his shoulder and the fight was then stopped. Vitali was easily winning the fight. If Vitali had managed to continue and lost all remaining rounds he would still have won the fight.

After nearly a 4 year layoff with more injury worries Klitschko came back well and won the title once more. His last 13 fights have all been world title fights and remember its almost 14 years since he first won the title stopping Herbie Hide in 2 rounds.

The common denominator between Haye and Klitschko is Chisora. Haye KO’d Chisora in 5 where as Delboy took Vitali the full distance, probably giving him his hardest fight in years, but again more injuries.

I know you can’t always go on who has fought who but Chisora is a good marker having fought Vitali, Haye, Tyson Fury and Robert Helenius with Haye the only person to really take care of him.
If the fight between Vitali and Haye had happened 4 or 5 years ago I would have sided with Vitali, but know with old father time and injuries catching up with him, I think the younger and far fresher fighter in David Haye could win, and I also now think Vitali knows it.

At this point there are some good up and comers like Kubrat Pulev, Bryant Jennings and Tyson Fury, but I see all of them for now losing to both Klitschkos and I also don’t see any reason that if Haye got a rematch with Wladimir Klitschko that the previous result would change either but now I think David could beat Vitali and as I said before I think Vitali knows it.
