Guerrero needs to KO Mayweather to win

guerrero123By Omar Torres: We all know that 43 fighters have stepped up and failed to K.O Floyd Mayweather (43-0 26KO) let alone beat the guy. In order for Robert Guerrero (31-1-1 18KO) to get his hand raised on May 4th in the MGM Grand arena he needs to KO Mayweather Jr.

Mayweather has superb defense rivaled by none, and that has kept him from being knocked out as fighters have a hard time finding his face. One promising thing for Guerrero though is that when Floyd Mayweather had his last fight with Miguel Cotto nearly a year ago, a lot of people saw Cotto giving Mayweather a run for his money. Some experts even believe that Mayweather is beginning to show signs of slowing down. Cotto was able to find openings to hit Floyd more that Floyd is used to. Yes, Floyd said he wanted to give fans a show by going toe to toe with Cotto, none the less Floyd wasn’t fast enough to block or dodge some of Cotto’s shots.

Guerrero will most likely not get the same treatment as Cotto did from Mayweather as far as toe to toe fighting, that’s what Andre Berto did with Guerrero and his face looked totally demolished. Mayweather is a smart man and he knows that Guerrero is younger and stronger than Cotto at this point. Plus, Mayweather doesn’t have the punching power to knock the tough Guerrero down, and in top of that Mayweather hasn’t fought in a year.

Mayweather’s plan will likely be to pick Guerrero apart throughout the fight. In the first few rounds Mayweather is going to feel Guerrero out and then work his magic. In those first few rounds Guerrero needs to show Mayweather his punching power but at the same time watch for Floyd’s counter punches. Guerrero needs to test Floyd’s chin and go for the knockout early. If that fails plan B would have to be patients and find openings to hit Floyd which will be a difficult task. If the fight does go to a decision Floyd would likely be the winner.

All in all I think Mayweather has the advantage in beating Robert Guerrero as Floyd is the better boxer with all around skills. But in this world no body is perfect, and Floyd’s one year lay off at this point of his career might cost him. I do believe that Robert Guerrero has the ability to pull one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.
