golovkin222By Dan Ambrose: WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (25-0, 22 KO’s) won’t be fighting on HBO for his next bout on March 30th against 37-year-old Nobuhiro Ishida (24-8-2, 9 KO’s) at the Chapiteau de Fontvielle, in Monte Carlos. With the fight not being televised on HBO, there’s not as much money to find a bigger name to fight the 30-year-old Golovkin, and there’s not as much pressure for Golovkin to fight anyone good.

Golovkin would be more than happy to fight a top quality fighter, but at this short notice it’s just not going to be possible to find anyone worthwhile.

Golovkin vs. Ishida is a good stay busy fight due to Ishida having good skills, and a lot of experience. He’s not a pushover despite his recent problems in his last two fights in losses to Paul Williams and Dmitriy Pirog.

Ishida is capable of scoring knockouts when he lets his hands go like we saw in his 1st round knockout win over James Kirkand in April 2011. Ishida, who normally starts slowly and fights in a measured pace, came out fast against Kirkland knowing that if he didn’t he’d get blown out. The quick start by Ishida led him to drop Kirkland three times before the fight was halted at 1:52 of the round by referee Joe Cortez.

Golovkin defeated Gabriel Rosado by a 7th round TKO last month on January 19th in New York. Rosado had promised that he was going to have too much power for Golovkin and that would KO him, but what we saw instead was Rosado just running. It was like he doing the exact opposite of what he had been saying the whole time.

Rosado said that his plan was to move a lot around the ring in the first four rounds, and then after that to go after Golovkin. He did that but then he failed to switch on his offense, and he ended up just taking a beating and bleeding all over the place until the fight was stopped by his corner in the 7th.
