Fury vs. Cunningham winner must fight Kubrat Pulev in IBF eliminator

pulev56By Scott Gilfoid: The winner of the April 20th fight between Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) and Steve Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s) wants a title shot against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko then they’re going to have to battle #1 IBF contender Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KO’s) for the IBF #1 eliminator spot next instead of being able to go straightaway into the fight with the 6’6” Wladimir.

The Fury-Cunningham fight is only an eliminator for the IBF #2 spot, so there’s still going to be a lot of hard work for the winner of that fight.

In International Boxing Federation has ordered that the winner of Fury-Cunningham has to face Pulev. I can pretty much guess how this is going to go. Fury will beat the much smaller, shorter and older 36-year-old Cunningham, and the instead of facing the dangerous Pulev in the IBF eliminator bout for the #1 spot, Fury will almost undoubtedly look to go after the WBC heavyweight title if the current champion Vitali Klitschko chooses to vacate the title or is stripped of it.

No way do I see Fury taking on the 6’4 ½” Pulev because he has the talent to beat Fury quite badly, and I don’t think Fury’s promoter will allow that to happen. If he’s not making Fury vs. David Price, then you can expect the same thing to happen with Fury vs. Pulev because the big Bulgarian is arguably a better heavyweight than Price.

The Fury-Cunningham fight will be staged at Madison Square Garden Theater, in New York, New York, USA. Fury is saying that NBC turned down fights between him and the arguably much more dangerous Deontay Wilder and Bryant Jennings. In other words, they turned down heavyweights with better power, better size and higher rankings.

I can’t believe that. Why would NBC turn down higher ranked heavyweights with the actual size and power to beat Fury? Cunningham is a 36-year-old fighter who has lost two out of his last three fights, and who weighs only 205 pounds. He’s like a tiny cruiserweight, and this isn’t going to be competitive or even close to being competitive.
