Froch vs. Kessler: Carl about to make the same mistake as last time

froch6By Scott Gilfoid: If you’ve listened to some of the comments from IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch in describing what he intends on doing against WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler in their rematch on May 25th, it becomes clear that Froch is going to try and out-brawl Kessler by fighting even harder than last time they fought back in April 2010.

Froch seems to think he can whip Kessler by throwing more combinations than last time. Froch’s grand plan for beating Kessler is by throwing 6-six punch combinations each time he lets his hands go. In other words, Froch will be throwing flurries after flurries, hoping for the best.

That’s a stinker of a plan because it shows that Froch hasn’t learned from his whippings from Kessler, Andre Dirrell and Andre Ward from the past. You can throw Jermain Taylor’s name in there as well, because he was dominating Froch as well and came within an eyelash of beating him three years ago.

Froch is one of those fighters that believes that more is better. He thinks he can win by throwing more punches, and by doing more exercise in training camp. What you’d like to see from Froch is for him to be looking to win with his head instead of his brawn. That’s what sets talented fighters like Dirrell, Taylor and Ward apart from Froch.

Those guys don’t just try to overpower their opponents. They instead prefer to outbox them and slowly demoralize them with their skills. Froch is still stuck with basic primitive plan A, and it’s as if he doesn’t even have a plan B to use for when he’s unable to out-slug Kessler.

Froch is going to be totally lost when he discovers early in the fight that he doesn’t have enough offensive talent to out-slug Kessler, and I can only wonder what Froch’s plan B will be. Gosh, I sure hope Froch doesn’t take it into the dark ages and and start fouling like no tomorrow to get an edge.
