Froch: I’m going to beat Kessler

froch9By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) plans on throwing away any idea of using boxing tactics in his rematch against WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) in their rematch on May 25th.

Froch believes the best way to beat Kessler is to go right at him and turn it into a war like he did in stopping former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute last May in Nottingham, England.

Froch said to thesun.co.uk “It can only go one way…Carl Froch will win. As soon as I get in there, I’m going to pick up with round 13 where I left off with round 12 in Denmark. It’s a case of standing in range.

The fight will be held at the O2 Arena in London, UK, and there will be 17,000 thousand fans in attendance. Froch believes that most of them will be his fans, and he’s excited about fighting in front of that many fans. Froch has never fought in front of more than 10,000 that the Nottingham, Arena holds, and he thinks the big crowd will help him have more energy to beat Kessler.

As far as Froch’s plans on fighting Kessler in an all-out brawl on May 25th goes, I hope Froch has taken the time to review their previous fight from April 2010 because if he’s seen that fight he should know that it wasn’t working when he was trying to go toe-to-toe with Kessler. Froch was getting beaten to the punch by Kessler’s superior combinations, and he couldn’t stand in there with Kessler’s harder shots.

Kessler was simply a superior slugger than Froch in every way. Kessler may have been dominated by the quicker and slicker Andre Ward, but against Froch, he was in his element against a guy with long arms that weren’t as fast as him in throwing punches.

Froch had to back away pretty much every time the two fighters would have exchanges, and on the few occasions that Froch did get the better of Kessler during an exchange, Kessler would come right back and tag Froch with either a hard 1-2 combination or a stiff jab that would snap Froch’s head back violently.

All the things that Froch was able to do in beating Lucian Bute and Yusaf Mack are going to be useless against Kessler because he’s better than those guys and Froch is going to find out that out immediately in the 1st round.

Right now Froch only has a vague memory of what happened to him against Kessler three years ago, but once he gets in the ring with him on May 25th, he’ll quickly realize why he lost that fight when he starts getting dominated in the exchanges by Kessler.

Kessler has a better jab, better power, better hand speed and better boxing skills than Froch could ever hope to have, and there’s nothing that will change that on May 25th. The past will repeated with Froch losing just like he lost in April 2010.
