Frampton: The top fighters will notice me if I beat Martinez impressively

frampton3By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten Carl Frampton (15-0, 10 KO’s) is hoping the top fighters in the 122 lb. division will take notice of him if he whips EBU super bantamweight champion Kiko Martinez (27-3, 19 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Odyssey Arena, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.

Frampton, #9 IBF, #8 WBC, believes he’ll be ready to mix it up with the top echelon of the super bantamweight division by 2014 in fights against the likes of Nonito Donairre and Guillermo Rigondeaux.

Frampton said to Sky Sports News “An impressive win could make the boys at the top of the division stand up and take notice.”

The top fighters at 122 may take notice, but it won’t matter much if Frampton still doesn’t have the talent to beat any of them. You know what I mean? The top fighters may look at Frampton’s fight against the #6 IBF, #7 WBC, Martinez, but it’ll likely be in the same way that they would in surveying a car crash on the side of the road or looking at someone trying to copy the painting style of Picasso and doing an awful job of it.

Poor Frampton. Yeah, Donaire and Rigondeaux may notice him IF he beats Martinez, but they won’t be worried because they’re both on another level. What’s the point of getting noticed by guys you don’t have the talent to beat?

Instead of Frampton trying to get the attention of fighters that he doesn’t have the talent to beat, he should be trying to get the attention of non-world title fighters that are still a level above him like Wilfredo Vazquez, Victor Terrazaz, Vic Darchinyan, Cristian Mijares, Rico Ramos, Ricardo Cardoba, and Takalani Ndlovu.

Those are the guys that Frampton should be trying to get the attention of so that he can fight one of them before he gets put in with a world champion and takes a likely beating.

Frampton is going to have his hands full with Martinez on Saturday night, and he may not even win this fight. It’s not smart for Frampton to be looking past Martinez because this guy could very well beat him and make him look bad in front of his Irish fans.
