By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. is motivated to complete his new six-fight deal with Showtime/CBS, starting with his fight against Robert Guerrero on May 4th. Mayweather feels that Guerrero has earned his shot against him by beating most of the opponents that he’s faced during his career.

Mayweather said to ESPN “He’s [Guerrero] a guy that worked hard and went out and earned it. He beat every guy they put in front of him except in two fights, so he’s tough. I think Robert Guerrero has never fought someone like Floyd Mayweather because I’m versatile. I know I can adjust and adapt to any fighter. He’s a young lion, and he’s earned his spot. He’s my mandatory.”

Mayweather has refused to talk bad about Guerrero, even though Guerrero recently has been saying that he sees deterioration in Mayweather’s game, and he feels that he’s ready to be beaten. Guerrero thinks Mayweather is now being forced to mix it up with his opponents more than he did when he was younger because his legs aren’t young like they used to be.

Guerrero is probably right about Mayweather having slowed down in the last couple of years, but he’s like one of those types of fighters that have extra tools and skills to fall back on now that his legs aren’t able to carry him around the ring. Mayweather is still very fast with his hands, and he’s so intelligent in the ring.

He can find out what the weaknesses are of his opponent and then go for the kills. This is why Guerrero is going to have to bring something different to this fight then what he’s shown in his last two fights against Selcuk Aydin and Andre Berto.

Simply trying to outwork Mayweather like a smaller version of Antonio Margarito isn’t going to work. The Guerrero that fought Berto would be embarrassed by Mayweather. Guerrero is going to have to use some boxing to avoid getting hit because Mayweather will pick him apart if he tries to bum rush him with his primitive fighting style.
