Enzo Calzaghe: Rees has a great chance of beating Broner

It’s unclear what clips Enzo actually saw of Broner because if he’s seen anything recent, he’d likely be giving Rees zero chance of winning. In fairness to Enzo, he must have watched two clips from Broner’s fight with Daniel Ponce De Leon because all the remaining fights on Broner’s resume have been totally one-sided.

Enzo told Sky Sports “It’s not a certainty that Broner will win this fight. I think he [Rees] can actually do it. He’s got a great shot. …This Broner, I’ve only seen two clips of him, and he really didn’t impress me. Everyone’s talking so highly of him. Once upon a time, they talked highly of Jeff Lacy, and what happened to him…There’s more than a 50-50 chance for Gavin.”

I hate to be the one to break this to Enzo, but the chances of Rees pulling off an upset tonight aren’t good, and I think he can pretty much forget about the 50-50 business because Rees’ chances aren’t that good. I like the 80-1 odds.

As Steve Kim said, Rees merely losing by a 12 round decision would be a morale victory for Rees. That’s how overmatched Rees is in this fight. Rees is slower, shorter, weaker, older, and fighting away from home in Broner’s home country.

Everything is stacked against Rees in this fight, so what it’s almost comical that Enzo is talking about Rees having a better than 50-50 chance. Where did Enzo get that from? I guess it could have been worse. He could come up with something like it’s 75-25 in Rees is favor.

All I’m hoping for tonight is a good fight. If Rees can pull off an upset then more power to him, but I just don’t see where he can do that. I’ve seen more than two clips of Rees’ fights, and I know that he simply doesn’t have the talent to compete with Broner.

It’s too bad Enzo didn’t see more of Broner’s fights before he came up with views on Broner because you can’t really say much if all you’ve seen of a fighter is two measly clips.
