Donaire needs to get to Rigondeaux early before he figures him out

donaire454By Chris Williams: WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire’s best chance of scoring an easy knockout win over WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s) will be in the first couple of rounds when they meet up on April 13th on HBO at the Radio City Music Hall, in New York, New York, USA.

Donaire has a chance of scoring a KO over Rigondeaux before the Cuban fighter has figured him out. However, once the fight goes past the 3rd, Donaire’s chances of knocking Rigondeaux will drop to zero, and his chances of winning will likely drop as well because Rigondeaux will have figured out what to do in order to eat him.

Rigondeaux is one of those types of fighters that once he’s got you figured out, you’re in trouble. Donaire has good power, but he’s incredibly sloppy with the way he loads up with his shots.

Donaire gets away with this because he’s been steered away from counter punchers, but there’s no avoiding it now because the fight is signed and he’s facing one of the best counter punchers in the super bantamweight division in the 32-year-old Rigondeaux.

Donaire is going to start fast because his recently string of success has made overconfident, so you can expect him to jump on Rigondeaux early in this fight. I don’t know if Rigondeaux will be able to survive the first three rounds if Donaire really unloads on him, but if he’s still standing after the 3rd, then I suspect Rigondeaux will come back to stop Donaire with a body shot. Donaire’s rib cage is going to be wide open every time he throws one of his big left hooks and right hands.

Rigondeaux is going to land his body shots at some point, and I don’t think Donaire will be able to take them. He can handle head shots okay, but getting hit in the body by Rigondeaux is something you can’t train for. I think Donaire will prove to be no tougher than the guys that Rigondeaux has been taking out with body shots.
