Chris John should be in the top 10 pound for pound list

john453445By John Kelvin: Chris John is the longest reining champion in the sport today. He is the current WBA featherweight champion of the world and has held the title for 9 years making 16 defenses in total. John has defeated recent Manny Pacquiao conqueror and Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez as well as former champion Derrick Gainer.

He also holds victories over 5 time title challenger Rocky Juarez and top contenders Daud Yordan and Chonlatarn Piriyapino the latter of whom was 44-0 when he faced John.  John is an excellent fighter with great boxing skills who has defeated every man he has faced on the way to achieving an outstanding professional record of 48-0-2.

Despite this record, he is not ranked among the top ten pound for pound fighters in the ring magazine or any other pound for pound list. Fighters like Robert Guerrero and Adrien Broner are included in the list despite not achieving anything close to what John has.

Surely the fact that John has held his title for 9 years and has never lost a professional fight must be enough to earn him a place on the list if Adrien Broner is ranked at number 6 after defeating just one good fighter in Antonio Demarco.

Given the chance, John would probably defeat every 126lb and 130lb fighter in the world but he is viewed as being to dangerous and perhaps too good for fighters to risk their titles or undefeated records against.

It is unfortunate that John has been unable to secure big fights in order to prove how great a fighter he really is and I hope that he is not ignored by the International Boxing Hall of Fame when the time comes for his induction.
