Broner is a Mayweather Jnr in the making

broner56By Babatis Banda: Looking at WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) fight, you will not miss the semblance to Floyd Mayweather junior’s style. So far, he is the only fighter that has come close, style-wise to the great P4P king. Not only is he talented like Floyd, he is proving to be a mouth-full as well. While I find nothing wrong with the kind of brush-talk that Broner engages in, I hope that just like Floyd, he also lives up to his hype each time he fights and so far, so good.

There is no doubt that Broner is a budding star. It is going to be very difficult to steal his shine just like that. This is now the moment for haters who have no regard for talent. The usual sadism has quickly shown its ugly face in the face of Broner’s recent and impressive successes.

My only concern and of many others is that Broner seems to take in too many punches, even with the Mayweather shoulder- roll shell defence system, but again who else doesn’t? The only fighter known not to have taken in too much punishment through-out his career is Mayweather Jnr himself. It would be asking too much from Broner to expect him to be exactly like Mayweather, because I just have a feeling no factory produces Mayweather juniors anymore.

That said, Broner has a bright future, he is positioned to make himself huge amounts of money. He only needs to mature…just a little bit more. He needs a fighter that will shake and give him a scare to complete his education. He now needs to face opposition that demands his ‘A-game’ each time he fights.

I have no doubt that Broner will face stiffer competition as he goes up the weights and discipline is going to be of prime importance. He still has a number of lectures to learn from the great master and I hope he is a great student too.

With the kind of foundation and skill Broner has, watch him take the mantle and shine at the very top. Broner is Mayweather Jnr in the making and the next big thing in boxing.
