Broner easily beats Brandon Rios if the fight ever happens

broner534By Scott Gilfoid: Both Brandon Rios (31-0-1, 23 KO’s) and Adrien Broner (26-0, 22 KO’s) has expressed interest in fighting one another in the future, but whether that happens or not is unclear due to their different promoters. Broner says it’s up to Golden Boy Promotions for the fight to be made, and Rios can only hope that his promoters at Top Rank will allow him to fight Broner.

If the fight does get made I believe Broner will be far too good for Rios. The skill level between the two of them is substantial to say the least. Rios is an easy to hit fighter with good power, but slow hand and foot speed. He fought well when he was a lightweight champion, but he was benefited by the fact that he always enjoyed a huge weight advantage against his lighter opponents.

Rios is now fighting at light welterweight, and he didn’t look very special at that weight in his first fight at 140 last October against Top Rank fighter Mike Alvarado. Rios stopped him in the 7th, but the fight was close up until then.

Rios would have problems with Broner’s speed and power, and he’d have major problems trying to land his punches against him. It wouldn’t be as easy a fight as the Broner vs. Gavin Rees fight, but I think it would still be a very easy fight for Rios.

We saw how easily Richard Abril was able to dominate Rios last year in a fight where he was jobbed. Broner can do everything that Abril can do but much better. Rios would look clueless trying to throw his slow, badly telegraphed shots and he’d end up getting a boxing lesson and a beating from Broner.

It’s too bad we’ll likely never see a Broner vs. Rios fight because of the two of them fighting for different promoters because this would be a good one. Even if Rios got totally schooled and smacked around, it would still help his career because of the attention he’d get in fighting Broner. It would be a win-win situation for Rios. He needs to twist his promoters arm to make the fight happen or look to make it happen once his contract runs out in the future.

Rios faces Alvarado in a rematch next month on March 30th in Las Vegas, Nevada. After that, Rios will likely be in line for a fight with Manny Pacquiao.
