Bizier defeats Campbell in Montreal

bizier2By Jim Dower: The much bigger #6 WBA welterweight contender Kevin Bizier (20-0, 14 KO’s) kept his perfect record intact in stopping 40-year-old former IBF/WBA/WBO lightweight Nate Campbell (36-10-1, 26 KO’s) by an 8th round stoppage on Friday night at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

The fight was halted after the 8th round by Campbell’s corner due to a back injury. However, Campbell was taking terrible one-sided punishment from the younger 28-year-old Bizier and it was getting worse with each round.

Initially, Campbell was fighting back in the first two rounds despite being much shorter and lighter, but from the 3rd round on, Campbell was just absorbing one-way punishment against the ropes without stop. Bizier showed good power and nice combinations. His left hook his best weapon in his arsenal, and he liked to throw triple hooks with big power.

Campbell had no problems finding Bizier when he would let his hands go because Bizier showed little head movement. In the 6th, Bizier hit Campbell with a tremendous left hook to the head late in the round.

In the 7th and 8th, Campbell took a lot of shots to the head. Campbell did fight reasonably well in the 8th, landing some really nice body shots and you could see that it had an effect on Bizier because his output dropped in that round.

After the fight, Campbell complained about his back, and said it hurt too much for him to continue. He said he was going to go back down to 140 because he doesn’t have the size to compete at 147. He said Bizier was 160 pounds tonight after weighing in at 156 this morning during the secondary weigh-in.
