dirrell322By Scott Gilfoid: Super middleweight Andre Dirrell (21-1, 14 KO’s) will be back in the ring on April 12th against an opponent still to be determined in a scheduled 10 round bout at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California.

Dirrell, 29, wants to fight at least six times in 2013, and he’s already had one impressive performance this year in beating the hard hitting Michael Gbenga by a lopsided 10 round unanimous decision earlier this month on February 2nd from McAllen, Texas. That was Dirrell’s first fight since his win over Darryl Cunningham in December, 2011.

Dirrell wants to get his career back on track after missing way too much time for a number of reasons, one of them being an injury he suffered in the Super Six tournament in a fight against Arthur Abraham. Dirrell wants to get back in the top 15 rankings so that he can angle himself for a fight against IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch. That’s the strap that Dirrell is looking to after.

Dirrell realizes that Froch may not be the belt holder by the time he gets his shot at the title, but he doesn’t care about all that. Dirrell just wants a shot at the IBF strap so he can start collecting the 168 lb. titles one after another. It’s not about names for Dirrell. He wants the titles, and a lot of these guys are heading towards the last roundup in terms of their time left in the sport. The younger 29-year-old Dirrell has a lot of time left, and he’s going to shooting for all of the straps.

Dirrell pretty much should be considered still unbeaten because the only loss on his resume was from a controversial decision loss to Froch when Dirrell was forced to fight Froch in his home city of Nottingham, England. Dirrell dominated the entire fight, but was given a loss anyway by a 12 round split decision.
