alexander232By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) has reportedly suffered a biceps injury while training for his scheduled February 23rd title defense against unbeaten Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) in Detroit, Michigan. The injury is bad to where Alexander’s fight with Brook will need to be postponed until a later date.

Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn said on his twitter “We received the news from Golden Boy Boxing that Devon Alexander has pulled out of the fight due to a bicep injury. We will have a new date ASAP [as soon as possible].”

The Alexander-Brook has already been previously postponed when Brook hurt his angle in training, causing the fight to be pushed back to February 23rd. Hopefully this will be the last injury postponement for the fight because Alexander wants to get this fight out of the way and move to bigger and better things.

This is a mandatory defense for Alexander, so he had no choice but to take it, but it’s not a big money fight because casual boxing fans in the United States don’t have a clue who Kell Brook is and they haven’t shown much interest in the fight.

Alexander wants to take on bigger names like Victor Ortiz, Andre Berto, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Amir Khan and Manny Pacquiao. That’s where the bigger will come for Alexander, but he’s going to have to wait a little longer until his injury heals before he can this fight over with.

For Brook, this is really bad news because he’s been training hard for many months and he already looks over-trained. When a fighter has been working really hard for a long period of time it gets to the point where they’re no longer getting any benefit from the training, and they’re actually hurting themselves.

In looking at the photos of Brook, I think he looks like a fighter that has gone way overboard in trying to prepare for this fight, and I believe he’s going to be weak when the fight actually takes place. Brook needs to back off his training and start eating a little better because he looks too stringy from all the training he’s been doing.
