Warren: Ricky Burns WILL fight Adrien Broner

burns2By Scott Gilfoid: British promoter Frank Warren says that WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (35-2, 10 KO’s) will fight the talented WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) in 2013, if Burns can get past his scheduled March 16th unification bout against IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez (33-3, 13 KO’s) at the Wembley Arena, Wembley, in London, United Kingdom.

Warren said in his column at thesun.co.uk “He [Burns] intends to beat Broner, not simply turn up for the dough. That fight WILL happen, home or abroad, provided both continue to win…Burns has done a job on world class opposition in Michael Katsidis, Paulus Moses and Kevin Mitchell.”

I think he would have been better off leaving out Burns’ wins over Mitchell, Moses and Katsidis, all of which I consider to be weak opponents. I don’t rate any of those guys, and there’s a world of difference between Burns beating Mitchell, Moses and Katsidis compared to what he’ll have in store for him if he ever faces Broner.

I don’t see Burns agreeing to fight Broner even if Burns does beat Vazquez on March 16th.

I think there’s something about Broner’s talent that causes Burns to move in the other direction each time the fight with Broner is offered to him. Burns has had two chances to fight Broner and each time he’s chosen to do something else. I think at that point it’s a waste of time for Broner to even bother trying to get a fight with Burns considering he’s just putting himself in position to possibly get turned down.

The thing is none of this really matters for the reason that Burns isn’t going to get past Vazquez on March 16th. I think Vazquez is a much better fighter than Burns and it probably won’t even matter that Burns will be fighting at home in the UK.

Vazquez is going to dominate Burns in such a way that the judges will have an easy decision to make by giving the win to Vazquez. Burns is going to struggle with Vazquez seeing that he’s not someone that will be standing directly in front of him or trying to come at him the way that the guys that Burns has been beating.

Burns didn’t look good against Katsidis and Moses, and I thought those were two limited fighters. The fact is Burns hasn’t faced anyone that you can call a good fighter. He’s not faced the likes of Brandon Rios, Vazquez or Antonio DeMarco. Those are the fighters that Burns should have been fighting all this tie instead of Mitchell, Moses and Katsidis.
