Tyson Fury vs. David Price: Indecent Proposal

fury334By Rusty Nate: So the recently revised offer is now £1,000,000 for Tyson Fury to jump in the ring with David Price, according to Frank Maloney who goes on to tell us that the fight can happen in either London or Liverpool in June this year.

This situation throws up so many arguments between fans that believe one fighter is better than the other.

I read an article earlier this week that wrote “Price has already proved he has a suspect chin in the amateurs”. This was of course from everyone’s favorite writer and admirer of everything Deontay Wilder.

My take on this whole situation is firstly I can kind of understand why Fury is ranked so highly so quickly. He is unbeaten and there is a noticeable lack of big heavyweights out there with an unbeaten record, a decent punch and a personality (whether it’s liked or loathed). Price is the same and Deontay Wilder is coming along as also very similar as well.

BUT my god, what the hell is going on with an offer of £1,000,000 being made to a fighter that is still considered a relative new boy in the game?

There are well known world champions out there defending their titles for less than half of this amount fighting against other known fighters in places like Las Vegas! The boxing world has gone mad! I personally think it is completely crazy and such a bad thing for the sport and the fighters.

What desire will a fighter have to achieve his potential if he is already a multi-millionaire prize fighter 3-4 fights before he has even earned the right to challenge for a world title let alone won one?

This same thing happened in the football ranks a few years ago because of TV rights and marketability. An example is Wayne Rooney earning £250k a week. Its all ridiculous but at least the players in the top flight football divisions around the world have to earn those kind of paydays before they get them. Can we honestly say the same for boxers?

With regards to the fight itself if it happens – I am not prepared to call a winner to be honest because I see no point.

Breaking them down I’d say I don’t really like Fury’s personality where as I think Price is a little more a man of the people. Other than that, neither fighter, although they are both great prospects, has done anything in their paid contests so far to show that they have the upper hand over the other.

I think the fight is a good thing when is happens. The build up will certainly be entertaining combining Fury’s fiery outbursts and Price’s cool temperament and sarcastic responses. The fight itself will be worth watching but it could be over very fast and it could go either way. It’s a pure 50/50 battle at this stage of their respective careers but i certainly wouldnt expect a points decision to arise.

Bring on this fight! I for one would love to see it although if they are paying these kind of wages I can see it being a pay per view event rather than Channel 5 free TV as Tyson’s fights are normally.

Maybe the winner should go after Deontay but which one of the two it is they’ll need to be able to take a good punch!
