Roach has a new reason why Pacquiao-Mayweather fight can’t happen

roach45By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach has added a new reason why he doubts a mega fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. can never happen and that’s because he feels that Mayweather will never agree to fight Pacquiao outside of the United States.

Pacquiao reportedly doesn’t want to fight in the U.S because the government takes close to 40% of his earnings through taxes, so the only way a fight between him and Mayweather could happen is if Mayweather agreed to fight Manny in a country like Mexico or one of the Asian countries. Roach doesn’t see that happening.

Roach told Sport360 “The one thing about Mayweather is he will never fight anywhere but Las Vegas. He made that clear in the past when we were in talks. So I don’t think a fight between him and Manny could ever happen anywhere but the States.”

Well, Roach should look at it this way: If Pacquiao fights Mayweather in the U.S., Pacquiao will still make a lot more money after taxes than he will fighting outside of the U.S in Mexico or one of the Asian countries. Wouldn’t it be better for Pacquiao to get more money in the U.S fighting Mayweather than say fighting in Mexico against Juan Manuel Marquez over and over again?

Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum has pretty much run out of viable opponents for Pacquiao anyway. Once he exhausts the boxing public’s interest in watching him stage repeated Pacquiao-Marquez fights then the only other fighter he has in his Top Rank stable is Brandon Rios, and that’s not a really huge fight in putting Pacquiao with him.

That doesn’t mean Arum won’t likely do it because Rios is after all one of his stable fighters, so it’s highly likely he’ll be the next guy that Pacquiao fights after Arum stops the Pacquiao-Marquez rematches for a little while.

If Pacquiao keeps losing then the discussion about a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will be a moot point because there won’t be any reason for them to fight. Roach needs to worry more about that then the fact that Pacquiao might have some tax money taken out.
