Rees: I’m going to pull off a huge upset against Broner

rees3By Scott Gilfoid: A month from now this will all seem like a bad dream for Gavin Rees (37-1-1, 18 KO’s) after he faces WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) in the United States on February 16th, and takes his knockout loss, and then flies back to his home city of Newbridge, Wales, in the UK.

Honestly, it’s not going to end good for Rees. But right now Rees is still hopeful, and still believes he has a chance to pull off a huge upset when they meet at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Reality will set in quickly once February 16th arrives, and Rees takes a one-sided beat down from the most talented fighter by far in the lightweight division.

Rees says “I’m looking forward to causing a massive upset…I’m confident I can come out the winner…I’ll get the recognition after this fight that’s for sure.”

I honestly do think Rees will get a lot of recognition, but not in a good way. He’ll be like more famous for losing than he ever was for winning because it’s going to be so one-sided that Rees is going to end up taking a bad beating and likely bleed all over the place.

I just hope he doesn’t stick around too long in the fight and take needless punishment because it makes no sense for him to get blasted apart piece by piece when it’s academic that he doesn’t have the talent to compete with Broner. It’s better to quit early and fight another day then to swallow blood needlessly in a route.

The talent level between these two fighters is just so, so dramatic that you don’t want to want to see the beating go too far because Rees still has a few good years left if he doesn’t use it all up in one fight by getting punished badly by Broner.

Broner has the speed, talent, power, youth, skill and hometown advantage. I don’t see Rees with any advantage in this fight, not even with his experience because he’s faced mostly domestic level opposition during his career.
