Dany Garcia(Photo credit: Ester Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Dan Rafael of ESPN is reporting that WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia has a rib injury, and it’s possible that his February 9th title defense against Zab Judah will be postponed because of it.

Rafael said on his twitter “I’m told the Danny Garcia has a rib problem, which is why the Super Judah fight might be postponed.”

So there it is. Garcia has a rib injury that could cause the fight to be put off for a while until his injury heal, but it makes you wonder why Garcia didn’t just say that last night. Why keep quiet about it?

If the Judah-Garcia fight is postponed one question that comes to mind is what happens with the undercard fights that were scheduled to be televised on Showtime for February 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York? Is the entire card wiped out because of that? There were a number of decent fights on the card such as Danniel Jacobs vs. Billy Lyell, Peter Quillin vs. Fernando Guerrero, and Dmitriy Salita vs. Hector Camacho.

Danny Garcia might be better off just forgetting the whole idea of fighting Judah, if possible, and going in another direction, preferably towards Lucas Matthysse. That’s the better fight for him and the one that will get him much more respect from boxing fans win or lose. A fight against Judah is almost a no-win situation for Garcia due to Judah’s advanced age and because of how bad he looked in getting stopped by Amir Khan in 2011.

Judah isn’t ranked by the WBC, and he only has a #6 rankings by the WBA, meaning Garcia doesn’t have to fight Judah if he doesn’t want. It’s not as if Judah was Garcia’s mandatory challenger or anything. This was just a fight that Garcia’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotions wanted to put together because Judah is better known than most of Garcia’s contenders, and arguably a much lesser threat than Matthysse. While Judah does have a controversial victory over Matthysse two years ago while fighting at home in New York, there isn’t too many people who would give Judah any chance of beating Matthysse now, even by a controversial decision. Matthysse has gotten a lot better and Judah has aged.
