marquez56By Allan Fox: You can forget about boxing fans wanting to see Manny Pacquiao face Floyd Mayweather Jr. That’s not the fight that fans want to see any more in high numbers. The fight that fans want to see most of all right now is a fifth fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez. RingTV.com conducted a fan poll of which fights they want to see most of all and the Pacquiao-Marquez 5 fight came out as the #1 choice for fans.

Here are the polls stats:

Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Marquez 5 – 33.8%
Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Sergio Martinez – 21.6%
Nonito Donaire vs. Abner Mares – 20.2%

A lot of boxing fans want to see if Marquez can knock Pacquiao out again. He knocked Pacquiao out in the 6th round on December 8th last month, and it was such an exciting knockout that fans wants to see it one more time. Of course, there are a lot of Pacquiao’s loyal fans who believe the loss was a fluke, so they see a fifth fight as one where Pacquiao can avenge the loss and show that he was always the better fighter all along.

I don’t think it a fluke thing at all. Pacquiao simply got hit hard and he couldn’t take the shot just like he couldn’t stay on his feet when Marquez dropped him in the 3rd round with a monstrous right hand. I don’t know of too many fighters that would have stayed on their fight after getting hit with that kind of shot from Marquez.

It’s surprising how many fans want to see Martinez and Mayweather go at it, but unfortunately that’s not a realistic option because of the weight differences between Martinez and Mayweather. Any chance there ever was for a Mayweather-Martinez fight died when Mayweather struggled and took a lot of punishment in beating Miguel Cotto last year in May. Mayweather was bloodied in that fight and it was perhaps the hardest fight of Mayweather’s career in terms of punishment absorbed. After that fight I don’t think Mayweather Jr. will ever agree to fight a hard hitter like Martinez because the chances are too high that he’d take a beating whether he wins or losses.
