McCrory doubts Brook will beat Devon Alexander

brook2By Scott Gilfoid: Sky Sports analyst Glen McCrory has serious doubts that #1 IBF Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) will be able to beat IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) in their fight on February 23rd at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan. McCrory feels that Alexander, 25, just has too much talent and experience for the underdog Brook to win this fight.

McCroy said to Sky Sports “I think Kell’s great. He’s going into the lion’s den against a tough fighter in Devon Alexander. When you’ve got guys like Lucas Matthysse and Marcos Maidana you’ve beat…at times he doesn’t look good, but he’s got fast hands and he punches hard. When you look at the way he did Maidana, he’s class and it’s a big step up for Kell. I hope he [Brook] does it, but it’s going to be tough.”

You can say that again. It’s going to be very tough, but it’s really not going to happen. There are levels in boxing and you can just look at Brook’ last two fights against Carson Jones and Hector Saldivia to know that Brook doesn’t possess the talent to beat Alexander. I mean, Brook has enough talent to give Alexander a fight, but not enough to win.

Alexander has beaten better guys than Brook in Maidana and Matthysse. Those are really good fighters, and they wouldn’t struggle against a guy like Carson Jones. That would be an easy fight for both of them. Kell just doesn’t have the size, speed or power to beat Alexander.

I have a feeling that we’re going to see Kell have problems with his stamina again when he faces Alexander next month, or at least that’s the excuse I see being given after the fight to explain away the loss.

Alexander is the faster guy, the stronger guy, and the guy the longer arms. That’s going to be enough for him to get the victory in this fight on February 23rd.
