Martinez-Murray: Martin is up against it on April 27th

murray92By Scott Gilfoid: Interim WBA World middleweight champion Martin Murray (25-0-1, 11 KO’s) must be pretty happy right now that he’s been selected to fight the best middleweight in the division on April 27th against WBC 160 pound champion Sergio Martinez (50-2-2, 28 KO’s) at the Club Atletic Velez Sarsfield, Distrito Federal, Argentina.

Murray is happy because Martinez is the guy that all the young contenders want to fight, him and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. However, I think Murray’s happiness will soon be replaced with terrible sadness on April 27th when it becomes clear that he doesn’t have the talent to compete in this fight and ends up getting routed by Martinez.

The fight will be held on HBO in the United States, and it’ll likely be televised in the UK so that Murray’s loyal British fans can see him fight. I mean, it’s great visibility for Murray and a nice payday. Martinez didn’t have to fight him because Murray isn’t ranked by the World Boxing Council. However, it’s going to be bad for Murray because he’s going to likely take a bad beating in this fight and end up getting stopped.

That’s the unfortunate part for Murray. There will be happiness and sadness for him. I hope that he’s able to focus on the positive of him getting a good payday, because it might make him feel a little better knowing that he’ll likely be getting the biggest payday of his career.

I don’t see Murray getting too many more chances after this fight, so I hope he savors it because you never know when or if you’re going to get another shot.

Murray doesn’t have the power to stand and trade with Martinez, and if he tries to fight him like he did in his 12 round draw against Felix Sturm in December 2011, Murray will get knocked out. The only way Murray can survive to see the final bell in the 12th round is if he runs. That’s the only way. If he tries to punch with Martinez he’ll get knocked out so quickly it won’t even be funny.
