Marquez should ask for a 50-50 purse split for Pacquiao rematch if Arum insists on blood testing

marque34By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum may look to have random blood testing for the rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez next September. According to Philboxing.com, Arum will be insisting on the random drug testing to be conducted for this fifth fight.

If that does turn out to be the case then I say Marquez should ask for a 50-50 purse split because he’s going to have endure the hassle and pain of have his blood tested constantly over a matter of weeks before the fight if they do use random drug testing.

Like I said before, I don’t like the timing of the random blood testing with it coming directly after Marquez’s first victory over Pacquiao during his career. If they were going to do random drug testing then why didn’t it come during the three previous fights? Why is it coming now after all these years?

I can imagine what would have happened if Marquez insisted on random blood testing for his past three fights with Pacquiao. I think he wouldn’t gotten the fights with him. It’s not as if Marquez was in the position of power to ask for anything like blood testing. I think he would have been laughed out of the negotiations.

I think Marquez is perfectly willing to agree to the random blood testing, but I wouldn’t agree to it unless he receives an even 50-50 split. If he can’t get a 50-50 deal, then he shouldn’t agree to the blood testing because I don’t like the timing of the testing coming after his victory.

Marquez doesn’t need Pacquiao. If they want blood testing and aren’t willing to give him a 50-50 deal, then Marquez should move on and look to either fight Tim Bradley or preferably a popular fighter like Floyd Mayweather Jr. Bradley isn’t a good fight because there’s no money in it, so I wouldn’t waste time with that.
