malignaggi34By Dan Ambrose: WBA World welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (32-4, 7 KO’s) says he didn’t agree to the Shane Mosley fight because something in his contract with Golden Boy Promotions that wasn’t right. He said he agreed with the purse and with the opponent Mosley, but something wasn’t right his contract.

He’ll be meeting with Golden Boy to discuss his contract and his possible next opponent. As of now, Malignaggi says the following fighters are options for his next fight: Mosley, Diego Chavez, Marcos Maidana and Josesito Lopez.

Malignaggi said to Radio Raheem “The fight [with Mosley] seems to have fallen apart. I wasn’t asking for anything that wasn’t in my contract. The purse was fine. My team will meet with Golden Boy by this week to figure out a plan where everybody is mutually happy.”

It looks like Golden Boy Promotions is interested in having Malignaggi fight on the April 27th fight card headlined by Danny Garcia vs. Zab Judah at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. If that happens then Malignaggi won’t be the main event, and he’s going to have to decide whether he can accept that are not because there’s no way he’s going to unseat the Garcia vs. Judah fight in the main even unless he faces someone really popular.

Malignaggi may get stuck having to fight his mandatory challenger Diego Chavez, and if that happens it’s not going to be an interesting bout for boxing fans because Chavez isn’t well known in the United States.

Lamont Peterson signs with Golden Boy Promotions

IBF light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KO’s) has signed with Golden Boy Promotions. With this signing, Golden Boy further strengthens their stranglehold on the light welterweight division as they now have in addition to Peterson, Danny Garcia, Frankie Gomez, Lucas Matthysse and Amir Khan. This move will definitely help Peterson’s career since it’ll open up the other 140 pound fighters in Golden Boy’s stable so that he can get a shot at them.

Peterson hasn’t fought since defeating Khan in December 2011. Peterson has a fight scheduled next month against Kendall Holt (28-5, 16 KO’s) on February 22nd at the DC Armory, Washington, District of Columbia, USA. It would be interesting if Golden Boy could match Peterson with Khan again in a rematch. It would be a good fight to watch if Golden Boy can make that fight.
