Kell Brook: It’s my destiny to beat Alexander and take his title

1254By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) sounds like a man that’s possessed as the time gets nearer for him to step inside the ring and face IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) on February 23rd at the Masonic Temple Theatre in Detroit, Michigan.

Brook said “There’s no way that I am coming home without that world title. This is my destiny, it’s just meant to be and there’s nothing Devon Alexander can do to stop me.”

I don’t like to see fighters as possessed as Brook because he sounds like he may go to pieces when Alexander beats him in this fight.

It’s better that Brook have a more grounded, more realistic view about this fight and his chances of winning, at least that way he won’t be so mentally crushed afterwards when Alexander’s hand is raised to give the victory. Brook needs to recognize that the chances of him going home with Alexander’s International Boxing Federation title are quite low to the extreme. The fact of the matter is the odds are more in favor of Brook going home with a busted up nose, lips and eyes than him going home with Alexander’s title.

Brook, 26, has been working himself down to the bone in his training, and he looks cut up like he’s about to enter a bodybuilding competition rather than a boxing match. Brook was bragging about being ready for Alexander over a month ago, and it looks like’s gone overboard with the training judging from recent photos of him.

I would give Brook a lot more of a chance in this fight if he didn’t train himself to a point where he’s looking skeletal. He looks too ripped, too dried out, and too leathery from his overwork and I think it’s going to end badly for him. Brook should have trained like he always does instead of piling on more and more exercise, as if more is better. Well, at least Brook will have a good excuse to make for when he loses to Alexander. He can blame it on over-training.
