Judah still hoping to fight on February 9th; Garcia out with injury

zab judahBy Dan Ambrose: Zab Judah doesn’t care that WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia reportedly suffered a rib injury while training for their now cancelled fight on Showtime on February 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Judah still wants to fight on that date, and he’s hoping his team will be able to find a suitable replacement so that he can fight in the main event on that card.

Judah said this on his twitter “This is who I’m really fighting. A boy, not a man. Lol @DannySwift boy I’m on to you!! Ok its official @DannySwift has Blocked me from his twitter aint this a blimp? Lololololol I knew this boy didn’t want none @50cent. That’s Crazy because I just wanna fight the best and he say he the best so let’s get it and he blocked me ok I take another route. Ok on a real note the show must go on Brooklyn we still coming Feb 9, live @SHOsports I love my City and I’m still coming to put on a Show.”

Judah says he doesn’t know if Garcia is faking the rib injury or not, but he’s not going to sit around and be inactive. Judah wants the high visibility spot on Showtime on February 9th still and he’s going to try and take it if his promotional team can find a replacement that Showtime will agree to.

What’s working against Judah is that there’s only two weeks to go before February 9th, and it’s going to be extremely tough to find an opponent that will be good enough to fight in a main even.

Showtime televised a terrible mismatch between Amir Khan and unranked lightweight Carlos Molina last December. Believe it or not, that was a main event fight. Showtime has to make sure they’re televising quality fights and not just slop.

The undercard on the Judah-Garcia fight doesn’t have much to offer in terms of entertainment with WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin taking an easy defense against Fernando Guerrero, and Dmitri Salita fighting Hector Camacho Jr. fighting in welterweight action.

If they get someone like Thomas Dulorme or Ajose Olusegun to step in and face Judah on February 9th, I think that would be a main event-worthy fight for Showtime. Anything less than this then Showtime should just cancel the entire card to spar boxing fans a dull fight card. Showtime doesn’t need to be known for putting on fight cards that are filled with mismatches.
