Is pride the reason why Manny Pacquiao will return?

pac53By Gerardo Granados: Since his shocking knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez many boxing fans and sports writers have stated that Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao should hang his gloves and retire. Even on several internet sites and on sports media there have been irresponsible reports about Pacman health related to a personal medical opinion of a doctor that received worldwide coverage. Being Congressman Pacquiao a lion king do the readers believe he will retire after such defeat?

“Pride made him bigger than most could have imagined he would be and his pride will keep him at the top” – a friend of mine.

Maybe it is true and Pacman has nothing left to prove inside the ring, he has earned enough money to live comfortable for the rest of his days and his future on politics looks good; but is that enough for him? Just as Juan Manuel Marquez said in an interview there is not enough money to buy a new brain but is there a price for pride? For a civilian health is primordial but for a prizefighter it might be different because each and single time a fighter steps in to the ring he risk it.

Money is the main reason why a boxer becomes a professional, pro boxing is a cruel business and the vast majority of fighters will never achieve a million dollar purse but the pride of a local fighter cannot be measured by the money he earns.

I wish some of the young contenders would give fans the kind of fights that Pacquiao has given us true all this past years. We all like Manny´s crowd pleasing fighting style, how could we not like the brutal violence converted in art inside the ring. Personally I wouldn’t like to see him walk away after such defeat but I would hate to see him permanently hurt. If he is cleared by the doctors I would like to see him fight at the most three more times.

There have been a lot of lion kings who have retired too late, some have done it for money issues but others have done it because their pride would not let them. The meanest, baddest and most feared fighters share the pride of being champions of the boxing fans and the new talents should follow the example of these courageous and brave men. In this boxing era to over protect fighters is a major trend so you cannot criticize a lion king for his will to continue fighting.

May God let Congressman Pacquiao make the right decision and if he decides to continue fighting and it’s cleared by the doctors, he can still be able give boxing fans a good fight. As a fervent boxing fan I will always admire the pride of a prizefighter who shows his will to win moving forward no matter what, never quitting proving to have a heart bigger than his chest, even more when he gets off the canvas to continue fighting to achieve what most believed as impossible.

A friend of mine believes Pacman´s pride will make him return what do the reader believes?
