Froch vs. Kessler 2 heading for PPV: British fans get ready to dig deep

hearn343By Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn is working with Sky Box Office to make Froch’s April 27th rematch against WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) a per view bout when they meet up at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Nothing has been said about how much the British boxing public will have to fork over to see this fight, but there have been rumors of 15 pounds as a starting figure with it possibly being more depending on the demand for the fight.

You can bet that if Hearn gauges the interest to be extremely high with the British public, then the PPV number will likely creep up to what he feels the PPV buyer is willing to pay. This is going to be interesting to see what price Hearn puts on the Kessler-Froch 2 fight. I know how much I think it’s worth, but I’m a picky customer and I only likely to pay for quality.

Hearn said to the Mirror.co.uk “For a fight of the magnitude of Froch-Kessler, pay-per-view is a necessity.”

I don’t see why it should be a necessity. You’ve got Sky paying good cash for the fight, as well as Kessler’s Danish television channels. I don’t see why boxing fans should have to pay to see two guys that were already beaten by the talented Andre Ward. We’re basically seeing Ward’s leftovers fight, and the British is about to be asked to pay to see them fight. I don’t like the idea of paying to see a couple of guys that were beaten in a tournament with of them having a questionable decision win in the same tourney.

In the U.S, the big American promoters hike up the prices for the big stars like Floyd Mayweather Jr. when he faces decent opposition, and the fights still get a lot of boxing fans willing to pay good money to see the fights. It’s different with Froch and Kessler, though, because both of them are not undefeated like Mayweather, and they’re not as exciting as Manny Pacquiao once was.

Kessler and Froch were both beaten not too long again, and Froch has two losses and many boxing fans think he should have three.

Like I said, I’m not sure what Hearn is going to be asking for with the Froch-Kessler fight, but if it’s more than £2, then forget it. That’s too much in my book.
