Froch: After I beat Kessler, I want Lucian Bute and all the belts

froch34By Scott Gilfoid: After his fight with Mikkel Kessler this May, IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch says he’s going to look to face former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute in a rematch later on this year in Montreal, Canada. Froch figures he’ll be able to recapture his WBC strap, which was taken from him by the best fighter in the super middleweight division Andre Ward in December of 2011.

Froch said to Sky Sports “After I’ve avenged my loss [to Mikkel Kessler] I want to return to take care of Bute again. It looks like he is in line for the WBC title so a fight for all the belts would be a huge occasions over there [Montreal].”

Oh boy, it looks like Froch’s ego is starting to get out of hand again. This is what I was afraid of after he beat Bute and Yusaf Mack. Those victories seem to have planted grandiose ideas in his head about himself.

It actually won’t be for all the belts, Froch. You’ll still be missing the WBO strap, which is currently being held by Arthur Abraham, so don’t get get too excited. If you beat Kessler and Bute, you’ll have three of the four straps, but you’ll still be considered pretty much a paper champion by many boxing fans because you won’t have beaten the most talented fighter in the super middleweight division in Andre Ward.

It looks like Froch is getting kind of lippy on us with his looking past Kessler. It’s as if the win is already in the bag for him by virtue of the fight taking place in the UK in front of his throngs of loyal British followers.

Froch is going to have a ton of problems trying to beat Kessler, and it doesn’t matter that Froch will have 17,000 Brits cheering him on. He’s just too slow of hand, besides that he’s too drunk with success from his wins over Bute and Yusaf Mack for him to beat Kessler. Froch will be sloppy with his fighting style because he’ll be trying to fight the same way he did against Bute and Mack, and he’ll find out quick that Kessler doesn’t play that.

Froch’s overconfidence is going to be the real problem for him against Kessler. Froch was throwing two to three punch combinations against Kessler last time they fought in April 2010, and Froch was getting royally tagged each time he would do that due to his lack of hand speed and defense. But now Froch is talking about throwing six punch combinations against Kessler.

In other words, Froch is going to try and fight Kessler the same way he fought Bute and Mack. That’s a no-no. It’s not going to work. If Froch tries to throw six punch combinations against Kessler then Eddie Hearn, Froch’s promoter, will picking Froch up off the canvas with a giant spatula. Kessler will knock Froch out with a body or a head shot if he tries to unload on Kessler with flurries like he did against Bute and Mack. God, I hope Froch doesn’t let his ego get away from him for this fight because he’s going to taste some canvas if he does.
