Dirrell beat Froch better than Kessler did; only he didn’t get the win

mikkel kessler carl froch andre dirrell photoBy Scott Gilfoid: It’s really difficult to get truly excited about the May 25th rematch between IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) and WBA champ Mikkel Kessler (46-2, 35 KO’s) because I’ve already seen Froch beaten in the past three times and that’s way too much for my tastes. The talented ones don’t taste defeat left and right when they step it up, and I saw Froch struggle big time when he stepped it up in the Super Six tournament.

Froch was beaten by Kessler, almost beaten by Jermain Taylor, beaten by Andre Ward and he was clearly beaten by Andre Dirrell, although he wasn’t given the decision but he definitely beat Froch. Indeed, Dirrell beat Froch better than Kessler did but he wasn’t fighting at home like Kessler was when he fought Froch. It was clear domination by Dirrell in that fight and it’s so funny to see people talking about Kessler. It’s Dirrell and Ward who really schooled Froch and exposed his defensive flaws.

Froch was already been exposed by Dirrell and Ward. They showed basically that any good fighter with movement and talent can beat Froch.

A lot of Froch’s British fans are building him up like he’s a superstar just because he beat an unproven Lucian Bute, Arthur Abraham, Glen Johnson, Jean Pascal and Taylor. But Froch didn’t beat the best – Ward and Dirrell, and even Kessler beat him, and I don’t rate Kessler as being in the same league as Dirrell and Ward. But he still beat him.

Froch’s problem is that he’s pretty much a one-dimensional slugger who comes at his opponents in straight lines. He doesn’t move his head, he can’t move laterally, he fights with his guard down by his waist, and he gets hit with pretty much everything his opponents throw at him. His British fans seem to be lost in the fact that Froch was handled fairly easily by the three best guys he’s fought during his career and he was almost beaten by Taylor.

The guy that should be fighting Froch on May 25th is Dirrell because he whipped Froch worse than Kessler did and the fight should belong to him, he deserves it.
