Deontay Wilder faces Matt Greer in Mexico on Saturday, January 19th

wilder231By Steven Ocallaghan: So unbeaten heavyweight prospect Deontay Wilder (26-0, 26 KO’s) wants a world title fight in 2013. First he has to start beating guys in the top 20. After a boring fight against Kelvin Price when you could clearly hear the crowd booing, Wilder eventually came to life knocking out the ineffective Price in the 3rd round.

So on his march to a world title shot what does he do, he picks Matt Greer 15-8 and been ko’d 4 times already. Don’t believe what a certain writer tells you about this fight. Greer is not capable and this stay busy rubbish doesn’t cut it. You stay busy in sparring.

Also we are lead to believe he will get the new KO record, that will happen if he keeps picking up these fights but there is no title at the end of these meaningless contests.

If Wilder wants to be taken seriously he has to severely step it up. Forget about titles just try and take on guys like Manuel Charr 22-1, Denis Boytsov 31-0, Robert Helenius 18-0 or the guy I’d like to see him fight is Derick Chisora 15-4. Chisora with 4 defeats in his last 5 but all against guys in the top 10. For me that’s the difference.

Charr would be a good match-up. A fighter that likes to come forward and looked decent in his last fight against Airich. Even though Airich is past his best he is still head and shoulders above anything Wilder has fought.

The reason he is still fighting no hopers is because if Wilder had to step in against any of the top 10 he would get sparked cold. In my view, Wilder has no chin and in the one fight when he got caught against the poor and weak Harold Sconiers he was hanging on for dear life.

If certain writers and Wilder actually believe what they dream when they go to bed then he will be the greatest champ of all time, I am sure our Brit bashing friend already rated him as better than the great George Foreman.

So when Wilder fights the extremely capable Matt Greer, I know I couldn’t believe that either, we will be witnessing the beginning of his Quest to be world champ by the end of the year. But to those who live in the real world, I don’t think that is going to happen
