Burns vs. Vazquez: Ricky made a mistake by agreeing to this fight

burns34343By Scott Gilfoid: I think WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns 35-2, 10 KO’s) doesn’t realize what a huge mistake he made in agreeing to fight IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez (33-3, 13 KO’s) on March 16th at the Wembley Arena.

This is one of those colossal blunders that just make you want to laugh because of stupid it is. Burns has probably never seen Vazquez fight, so you can maybe give Burns a slight break for that reason for this disastrous choice. The fact of the matter is Burns doesn’t have a chance in this fight.

Vazquez is a superior fighter to Burns, and he’s going to give the Scot a boxing lesson on March 16th. Yeah, I recognize the fight will take place in the UK, and maybe we might see a controversial decision but still won’t take away how badly Burns is going to look in this fight. He’s going to look terrible, and even if the judges give him a decision that the rest of the boxing world outside of the UK disagrees with, he’s still going to dreadful in this fight.

Burns’ victory won’t be worth much if he doesn’t fight well enough to win, and I don’t think he will. Vazquez is almost impossible to hit and he does well against fighters like Burns, who tries to slug it out every chance he can get. Vazquez is too smart for that.

To show you how good Vazquez is, he’s only been beaten by Saul “Canelo” Alvarez [twice] and Timothy Bradley, and the losses to Canelo were controversial defeats. Burns isn’t even close to being as good as Bradley and Canelo. That would be sickening if Burns was thrown in the ring against one of those guys. It would be a massacre of the first order. Burns would get blasted out and dominated. But Vazquez fought both of those guys tough and should have arguably beat Canelo.

I just don’t see Burns doing well at all against Vazquez in this fight, and like I said, if the judges give Burns a decision that the rest of the world doesn’t agree with, he’s going to look bad. There won’t be any point in Adrien Broner fighting Burns if he’s given a questionable decision over Vazquez. Broner might as just move on and look for guys that are winning without controversy.
