Bellew: I can’t wait until Chilemba feels my power

bellew46By Scott Gilfoid: Tony Bellew (19-1, 12 KO’s) will be taking a step up in competition against Isaac Chilemba (20-1-1, 9 KO’s) in a WBC light heavyweight title eliminator on March 30th at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK. Bellew, 30, believes this will be the hardest fight of his career, but he thinks he can grind out a win somehow.

Bellew said to I Film London “This is the toughest fight of my career, I’m in deep here. I’ll find a way to beat Chilemba. I’ll grind it out. I can’t wait until Chilemba feels what I’ve got. It’s going to be a rude awakening.”

It seems to me that Chilemba has already been in with a bigger puncher than Bellew in Edison Miranda and he took care of him last year in February in beating him by a lopsided 10 round unanimous decision, so I do not quite understand why Chilemba should be worried about fighting a lesser puncher than Miranda. It doesn’t make sense at all.

Bellew doesn’t hit as hard as Miranda, and he doesn’t throw as many punches. There’s nothing to worry about other than Chilemba having to worry whether he’ll get the decision or not. I mean, the fight is taking place in Liverpool and Chilemba is the visiting fighter and all. That would be thing the biggest thing for him to worry about rather than Bellew’s so-called power.

Bellew better be worried about Chilemba’s power because this guy has got heavy hands and he throws combinations. He’s not a pot shot fighter like Bellew. Chilemba gets on top of his opponents and just doesn’t let up. He’s a relentless fighter that tends to wear his opponents down. He’s got some impressive knockouts over the likes of Jameson Bostic and Chamunorwa Gonorenda. Chilemba fought the talented Thomas Oosthuizen to a standstill in 2010 in a 12 round draw, and he beat a couple of very good fighters in Vikapita Meroro and Maxim Vlosov.
