Arum has big name for Tim Bradley’s next fight on March 16th

bradley33By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says he’s bagged a big named opponent for his fighter WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley’s next fight on March 16th. Arum isn’t spilling the beans but he’s pretty pleased about who he’s netted for Bradley to fight.

Let’s hope Arum didn’t find someone too good because Bradley (29-0, 12 KO’s) looked pretty vulnerable in his last fight against Manny Pacquiao last year.

Arum said to RingTV “The matchmakers are working on a sensational opponent…Once it’s announced, people are going to say, ‘Wow, I can’t wait to see the fight.”

I’m hearing it’s going to be Andre Berto, and no, I’m not excited about that fight. I can wait for the fight and it’s not an earth shattering name. If Berto is the guy that Arum gets then that’s pretty sad because Berto was soundly beaten by Robert Guerrero last November and Berto took a terrible beating in that fight. That was just a really poor effort by Berto with him trying to use the Mayweather shoulder roll and getting tagged all night long by lead left hands from Guerrero. A shoulder roll against a southpaw?

I wonder who told Berto to do that? Berto has lost two out of his last three fights, and I’m really hoping that Arum doesn’t select him for Bradley, but that seems like a classic Arum move. Find a struggling guy and then put him in with one of his Top Rank stable fighters, and then hype the fight as if it’s going to be competitive.

There are not a lot of options for Bradley in the welterweight division. Some of the best guys fight for Golden Boy Promotions, such as Marcos Maidana, and that’s not going to happen. I’ll laugh if Arum trots out Jan Zaveck as his big named opponent for Bradley or Top Rank stable fighter Mike Jones.
