alexander342By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1, 13 KO’s) plans on giving unbeaten British challenger #1 IBF Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) a royal beating in their fight on February 23rd at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan. Although this isn’t a home fight for the 25-year-old Alexander, he expects a lot of his fans will be driving over from St. Louis, Missouri to see him take on Brook and hand him his first loss.

Alexander said in an interview with boxingsocialist.com “I want to beat him [Brook] up. This is a statement fight for me. I don’t just box, I come forward. I do have some power. Kell Brook has got the European style where he stands straight up; he doesn’t move his head. He’s an average fighter, nothing special about him.”

Alexander has noticed that Brook has faced weak opposition his entire 8-year pro career and he seems him going into shock when he steps inside the ring with him and tries to mix it up with all the skills that he possesses in his game.

Brook, 26, didn’t look good last year when his promoter decided to take a small gamble and put him in with an okay fighter in Carson Jones. Brook was bloodied and battered by Jones and ended up winning a controversial 12 round majority decision while fighting at home in Sheffield. Brook was incredibly lucky in the 12th round when the referee chose to stop Jones when he was on the verge of finishing off a staggering Brook and give Jones a warning for something that he was doing wrong at the time.

I still don’t know what it was though because it looked like the only thing he was doing was tagging Brook in the head with punches.

I think Alexander has got this fight in the bag. Brook is a step down from Marcos Maidana, and it’s going to be an easy one, especially with Brook’s wide open defense.
