marquez675By Chris Williams: Trainer Roger Mayweather wasn’t surprised in the least that Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao was knocked out cold by Juan Manuel Marquez recently in Las Vegas, Nevada. Roger notes that Pacquiao has been knocked out in the past, so he wasn’t shocked to see him losing in that manner once again when hit hard on the button from a right hand bomb thrown by Marquez.

Roger said to Hustleboss.com “It wasn’t no big thing. He’s [Pacquiao] been knocked out before. It doesn’t surprise me he got knocked out [again]. It just happened. Marquez and him are about the same size, the same weight division.”

It’s no doubt not surprising because Pacquiao has been hurt before by Marquez, and with Marquez recently getting stronger through hard work and help from the excellent guidance from his strength and condition coach Angel Heredia, he was a much different fighter this time compared to the way he was in his past three fights with the Filipino.

Pacquiao may have thought that he was facing the same Marquez as he had in the past, but he wasn’t and he found out quick in the 3rd round that things were going to be different this time when he was put on the canvas by a big right hand from Marquez.

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach made a mistake in underestimating Marquez. Roach said before the fight that the extra muscle that Marquez put on wasn’t going to help him and that it was just going to make him slow, and easier to beat. Boy was Roach ever wrong about that. Roach also thought that Pacquiao absolutely needed a knockout to win the fight, because he felt that the judges were going to be more inclined to give Marquez the fight if was close due to Marquez getting shaft in two of their three previous fights before this one.

Roach pushed Pacquiao to try and KO Marquez and that may have ultimately played into Marquez’s favor by him being able to smash an overanxious Pacquiao I the head when he was trying to knock Marquez. It’s not as if Marquez didn’t warn Pacquiao ahead of time that if he came at him in a reckless manner that he’d knock him out and that’s exactly what he did on December 8th. He beat a wild Pacquiao by knocked him clean out when he tried to bum rush him like he’d done against a lot of the weaker opponents that his promoter Bob Arum had matched him up against in the past.
