Ricky Hatton: I’m content now

hatton1By Scott Gilfoid: Ricky Hatton (45-3, 32 KO’s) says he feels content now after giving it a try in making a comeback fight against former WBC welterweight champion Vyacheslav Senchenko last month in a 9th round knockout loss. Hatton doesn’t appear to be suffering emotionally after getting stopped by a left to the body Senchenko.

Hatton said to Hattonboxing.com “I needed to come back to find out if I still had it, but I obviously don’t. But I’m very content now.”

I must say that was one of the worst planned comebacks I’ve ever seen before from a professional fighter. It’s hard to believe that Hatton is a promoter because the way that he managed his own comeback was amateurish at best. I couldn’t think of a worst way to make a comeback than the way that Hatton did his.

Hatton had been out of boxing since 2009 when he was knocked out by Manny Pacquiao in the 2nd round, and instead of easing his way back into boxing slowly by taking on a few easy touches so that he could his way back into the sport, Hatton went straight to the top and fought an ex-world champion in Senchenko.

What happened to Hatton was the logical conclusion of what happens to fighters when they come off of a long retirement and try and take on a world class fighter. The way that Hatton reacted to his loss was even worse than his original decision not to take any tune-up fights.

Instead of recognizing that he made a big mistake by going straight into a tough fight without a tune-up, Hatton chose to quit boxing again, saying “I don’t have it anymore. “

It made no sense it all because he put himself into the position to lose in the first place and then instead of realizing he made a mistake, he goes and retires again. Like I said, I can’t understand a move like that from a guy that’s a promoter. I’d hate to have a promoter setting me up in a fight like that if I was coming off of a long retirement.
