pac3By Dan Ambrose: Manny Pacquiao’s loyal legion of followers may soon have to find another fighter t support if things continue to spiral downward for the Filipino fighter’s career. He’s lost his last two fights and is coming off of a brutal 6th round knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez.

There are whispers from a number of boxing greats that Pacquiao will likely never be the same after the way he was knocked completely out in his loss to Marquez. With a knockout like that we could see a long echo stretching out far into Pacquiao’s future causing all kinds of physical and perhaps even mental issues.

Those problems could come to the surface as early as his next fight or even possibly during his next training camp when he starts getting nailed by his sparring partners. Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach might be wise to consider skipping all sparring during Pacquiao’s next training camp and to focus on just tactics and strength and conditioning.

There are other fighters that don’t believe in sparring during training camp due to the punishment that you take. They believe that it takes too much out of you getting tagged so many times during each training camp and that ultimately helps shorten a fighter’s career.

Pacquiao is going to go out there and give it best shot against Marquez sometime in 2013, and we could see Pacquiao put out of his misery with a second knockout loss. If it’s another plank job then I think it might be time for Pacquiao to hang up the gloves for safety purposes. If he’s getting poleaxed when he fights, then it’s really time to walk from the game before he ends up hurt permanently.

Pacquiao’s fans may be looking for a new fighter to support real soon, and I guess WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire will get the support by default by many of Pacquiao’s fans. It won’t be the same thing of course because Donaire doesn’t throw punches in bunches like Pacquiao and he’s mostly just a counter puncher and not really exciting to watch, especially with the kinds of old opponents that Bob Arum has been matching him against.
