Image: Pacquiao: Marquez's going to be surprised with my new fighting styleBy Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao is supposedly working on changing his fighting style by working on being more aggressive in the ring like he was when he was younger and facing less talented opposition than he’ll be fighting on Saturday. This is something he’s been working on for the entire training camp in getting ready for his fight this Saturday night against Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao said in an interview with ESPN “He’s [Marquez] going to be surprised that I changed my style. This time, I’ll change my style and be more aggressive.”

That sounds like something his trainer Freddie Roach has been telling Pacquiao he needs for him to do in order to win. I don’t know if Pacquiao realizes this or not but he’s already been fighting in an all out aggressive manner in his past three fights with Marquez, and it’s not been working.

As Albert Einstein once said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

Roach should be working on developing Pacquiao’s skills for the fight because he’s not going to beat the more skilled Marquez simply by looking to be more aggressive with him.

I really don’t think Marquez is going to be surprised if Pacquiao comes out fighting aggressive like he always does. In fact, I think Marquez will see it as Pacquiao being Pacquiao, and he’ll welcome that kind of fighting style.

The thing with Pacquiao is he starts off aggressive but once he gets hit hard, he typically backs away and seems to mentally lick his wounds before charging forward for another attack. Pacquiao used to have this weird way of throwing double punches while he was running at an opponent.

I don’t see that as much in the past, but I guess we might see that from him on Saturday if he truly is going to be reverting back to his old style of fighting. But there’s not going to be any real change in Pacquiao’s fighting style because he’s set in his way at 34. He’s like a lot of people who try to make change in their lives. They talk about it but then turn around and do what they always do. Expect Pacquiao to fight with his usual in and out style this Saturday.
