Image: Pacquiao-Marquez 4 undercard: Gamboa-Farenas, Vazquez-GestaBy Chris Williams: There’s really not much to look forward to this Saturday night on the undercard of the $59.99 HBO televised pay per view card headlined by Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez 4 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa (21-0, 16 KO’s) will be finally returning to the ring after more than a year off and will be facing #8 WBA super featherweight contender Michael Farenas (34-3-4, 26 KO’s), IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazauez (32-3, 13 KO’s) will be defending his title against Top Rank fighter Mercito Gesta (26-0, 14 KO’s), unbeaten featherweight contender Javier Fortuna (20-0, 15 KO’s) has a mismatch against Patrick Hyland (27-0, 12 KO’s).

I’m not too excited about any of those fights. I’ve seen Farenas fight in the past, and have not been even slightly impressed. Gamboa wipes the deck with him unless Gamboa has lost something from the 15 months he’s been away from boxing. Gamboa really didn’t help himself by leaving Top Rank, because he didn’t do anything all this time. Gamboa might as well have stayed and beaten the guy that they wanted him to fight in Brandon Rios.

I’m sure after seeing fellow Cuban Richard Abril dominate Rios, Gamboa probably wish he had taken the fight. Of course, I don’t think Gamboa would have liked the idea of getting jobbed, so he maybe he was better off not taking that fight.

However, he should have stayed busy because he lost a year of his career and he’s not starting off with a big name in his first fight back. It would be great if Gamboa can destroy Farenas and the go to a big fight against the likes of Adrien Broner, but that’s not going to happen. We’re probably going to see Gamboa fight someone like Vazquez or Gesta, and end up wasting more time.

Gesta will be looking to win the International Boxing Federation lightweight title off of Vazquez. I’ve seen Gesta get out-boxed by weaker opposition than Vazquez, and I don’t see how he can win this fight. Gesta is too short and too limited. However, I think we’re going to see a controversial win in this right with Gesta getting the decision despite being totally schooled. I’d be surprised if we don’t see this outcome but that’s what I think is going to happen.
