Image: No Pacquiao, It is not up the Promoter to decide this timeBy Klaas Mabetlela: Following his devastating knockout loss to Juan Marquez, Manny Pacquiao gave his customary response when asked about his future. He said it is up to his promoter to decide what is next and there lies the rub. This time Manny needs to make a deeply personal choice about his career, he needs to do what is best for Manny Pacquiao.

Uncle Bob Arum salivated on a rematch and even went as far as mentioning the six times that Sugar Ray Robinson and Jake LaMotta fought. What disturbed me was that Arum did not even mention anything about the health of his cash-cow who has just spent over a minute probably closest to death he has ever been . Just a second after consoling the crying wife of Pacquiao, Arum was back in a business mode. He should have showed more personal touch under the circumstances.

This is a kind of arrogance I first picked up when Pacquiao lost to Tim Bradley. They just brushed it aside as a controversial loss instead of digging deeper into the reasons Manny found himself in that position. They obviously did not work hard enough on the weaknesses Manny displayed that night because Manny Pacquiao is Manny Pacquiao. I sense the same semblance of arrogance here and Manny needs to take care of himself.

I just think Pacquiao needs to assess the situation as it is; he has not stopped an opponent in the last 3 years, he has lost 2 fights in a row and the last fight was devastating enough to affect how he approaches the next fights. He may want to believe that he was caught with the punch he did not see, but the truth of the matter is that he was going to be caught at some point or the other. Marquez prepared for the fight with military precision and he knew which spots to cover. I cannot tell Manny Pacquiao to fight on or not, but I beg him to do it for the right reasons- if he so chooses.
