Mayweather Sr: Pacquiao won’t be the same fighter after his KO loss

pac92By Chris Williams: Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. doesn’t think Manny Pacquiao will ever be the same fighter he once was after he was knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez earlier this month in a one-punch knockout loss that knocked Pacquiao unconscious for close to 2 minutes. Needless to say, any fighter gets knocked clean out like Pacquiao was has a chance of suffering additional knockouts in future bouts.

It would be sad to see Pacquiao tossed into the ring again with Marquez next June or September and then Pacquiao getting poleaxed again.

Mayweather Sr. thinks Pacquiao is pretty much finished after what Marquez did to him with that big right hand shot he landed on Pacquiao in the 6th.

Speaking with Jenna Jay at Doghouseboxing.com, Mayweather Sr. said this when asked if Pacquiao will ever be the same again after his vicious KO loss: “I would have to say no. When you get knocked out like that, pretty much everything is over…Pacquiao is not going to be the same fighter he was…If he fights Marquez again the same thing could happen.”

Mayweather Sr. recommends that Pacquiao retire and go off and try and become the “Hawaiian president.” Mayweather Sr. has obviously seen a lot of fighters that have been knocked unconscious like Pacquiao and were never the same after that knockout. However, Mayweather Sr. still thinks it’s possible that Pacquiao can continue fighting and not suffer more knockouts, but he still thinks that the chances are higher Pacquiao gets knocked out again real soon, especially if he faces Marquez again.

Mayweather Sr. thinks that’s a really bad idea for Pacquiao because of the strength that Marquez has added to his frame recently. Mayweather Sr. believes that Marquez is simply too strong right now for Pacquiao to be mixing it up with.

Mayweather Sr. advises that Pacquiao take his money and go off into the sunset and retire from boxing. He believes that Pacquiao can save his brain a lot of trauma if he gets out of the sport now rather than sticking around and risk getting hurt again.

It’s Pacquiao’s choice. He wants to continue fighting and he’s not getting his arm twisted by anyone to stick around. He seems willing to take the chance that he won’t get knocked out again, and who knows? Maybe he won’t. Pacquiao could be one of the type of fighters that can get knocked out badly, and then come back from it without getting knocked out again.

If he does get knocked out he really should think seriously about getting out of the sport because I don’t see his promoter Bob Arum looking to put him in with any soft touches so that his brain can get a break.
