Mayweather Jr. is thinking about being trained by his father Floyd Sr. for this fight, which is rumored to be against WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero. Roger is having problems with diabetes, according to examiner.com and Mayweather Jr. thinks he may use Floyd Sr. instead so he can let Roger rest.

Mayweather Jr. told fighthype.com “At this particular time, I’m thinking about working with my father.”

It remains to be seen whether Mayweather Jr. will in fact make that switch from uncle to father for his training because Mayweather and his father argued during Mayweather’s preparation for his fight with Victor Ortiz.

If Mayweather Jr. does choose to be trained by his father it’ll be interesting to see how that relationship works out. His father initially taught Mayweather Jr. how to fight when he was young, but it was Roger who ended up training Mayweather Jr. throughout his pro career.

Floyd Sr. is an excellent trainer and is especially good at teaching defensive skills. If Mayweather Jr. fights Guerrero he’s going to need good defense because Guerrero throws a lot of shots when he fights. He likes to overwhelm his opponents with punches, and he’s a very good inside fighter.

If Guerrero is having problems with Mayweather Jr’s hand speed on the outside you can bet Guerrero will bull him to the ropes much like Ricky Hatton did when he fought Mayweather in 2007. Guerrero has the size to keep Mayweather there, but the question is does Guerrero have the talent to get the better of Mayweather in close? That might be tough because Mayweather isn’t a lazy fighter, and he doesn’t fight in spurts.
